Hangry Buddies – my top picks (Honest Review)

Hangry Buddies cropped up during ECQ to serve folks like me who were looking for a good dimsum dealer. They’ve partnered with different commissaries, which means you get to order curated food items from multiple merchants.

For today, I’ll be providing a run-through of my favorite Hangry Buddies dishes.

#1 Salt & Pepper Spareribs

Price: PHP 300 for 500g

How to cook it: So, normally you’d cook this by dipping it in 1 part flour and 1 part cornstarch, then deep-frying. But, because I’m trying to be healthy – more like I was too lazy to fry or even dip it in flour/cornstarch, I ended up just air frying the whole thing instead.

How I cooked it: Air fryer at 200 deg C for ~15 minutes

Honestly, the spareribs is already SUPER flavorful on its own. Very addicting. I munched away on these as a snack of sorts.

#2 Marinated Beef Brisket

Price: PHP 350 for 500g

How to cook it: Place the beef brisket in a pot, and add ~3 cups of water. Let it boil. Taste test. If the sauce is still too salty, add more water

This is meant to be eaten with the beef tendon and noodles, to make beef noodles. Honestly though, I fell in love with the Beef Brisket because it’s incredibly flavorful and SO tender. I think it would make the perfect pair to plain white rice. Omnomnomnom.

#3 Pure Shrimp Hakaw

Price: PHP 410 for 15pcs

How to cook it: Place in steamer for 10 minutes

Sounds pricey? That’s what I initially thought too. But mygosh, the shrimp hakaw is just HUGE and it’s pure succulent shrimp. I only wish the skin was a bit thinner, because I found it a bit too thick sometimes which didn’t allow me to fully appreciate the shrimpy goodness.

#4 Xiao Long Pao

Price: PHP 220 for 12 pcs

How to cook it: Place in steamer for 10 minutes

I would rank this much higher if it came with the steamer parchment paper. Unfortunately, it didn’t and so when I tried to pry it off the steamer, the juices flowed out. Noooo! Having said that, the seasoned pork filling itself was still very tasty, but I bet this would be 10x better if I managed to keep the flavorful hot soup!

#5 Salted Egg Lava Pao

Price: PHP 320 for 12 pcs

How to cook it: Place in steamer for 10 minutes

Salted Egg is my guilty pleasure. I absolutely adore salted egg chips for its salty and sweet taste, and the same applies here! If only there was a dimsum that was pure salted egg, without the pesky bread involved. Haha, just kidding, that would be too unhealthy ehem 😉
