Julien and Joachim’s Kitchen Laksa Feast Honest Review
July 31, 2021
Now that it’s perpetually raining, hot meals are like a balm to the soul. So I’ve essentially been ordering all these soups, and noodles and whatnot the past few weeks. So today, I’ll be writing about my experience with Julien and Joachim’s Kitchen Laksa Feast.
Laksa is a noodle soup that’s very popular in Singapore. Here in Manila, I usually get laksa from Bugis. Still, variety is always good so I decided to try Julien and Joachim’s Kitchen.
So my family is composed of 5 people and the Laksa Feast (at PHP 590) is only good for 4 people. Good thing they also offer solo Laksa (at PHP 165), otherwise we would have had to split the Laksa Feast into 5!
For that price, you get a spicy-sweet (veering more towards sweet) creamy coconut-milk based soup, as well as a multitude of viands (thick wheat noodles, prawn, balls, chicharon, and bean sprouts).
Overall – their soup is a bit different compared to what I’m used to, as I think they’ve localized it to Pinoy taste by adding more sugar. In terms of the toppings, they’re VERY generous with the noodles. Sadly, you only get 1 prawn, 1 ball, a few spattering of chicharon and bean sprouts. Bitin! Haha – anyway, that’s always my gripe with laksa dishes. I really should just stock up on my own balls and shrimps and just add it next time.
Having said that, what I REALLY like is their excellent customer service. I was really worried it would be difficult to book a Grab/Lalamove because of the torrential rains, but their customer service representative (on Facebook) was always super calm and accommodating as I kept asking for updates etc.
Would I order again? Maybe! I think I’ll try Bugis again. Julien and Joachim’s Kitchen is located in Project 4, QC – which is rather far; whereas Bugis is literally 10 minutes from my house. So I need to taste test Bugis again to see if it would just be more cost-effective (and yummy) to stick to them instead.
