Sainte Anne Cakes Mango Shortcake Honest Review

For my mom’s birthday, we opted to buy Sainte Anne Cakes’ super gorgeous mango shortcake. My sister is always on the lookout for new cakes to try, and recreate. She’s been itching to bake her own mango shortcake and so we took this opportunity to try out Sainte Anne’s.

This mango shortcake is really what put Sainte Anne’s on the cake map. But, what makes it so special?

It’s a fluffy sponge cake (so light it feels like you’re eating air!!!), with a thick layer of Chantilly cream with bits of mangoes in the middle. To top if off, you get slices of mangoes beautifully arranged to appear like a huge yellow flower.

First off – let me just say presentation-wise, it’s simply beautiful. Great for picture taking! Unfortunately, it got knocked around a bit on the car ride, so just be careful. Definitely not a cake you can transport via motorcycle.

Second, as mentioned, the fluffy sponge cake is so light it feels like you’re eating air – even with the Chantilly cream. This is ALWAYS a good thing in my books. I don’t like cakes that are too heavy. Number one, it makes me feel queasy afterwards. Number two, it makes me feel guilty.

On the flip side, I end up eating waaay too much cake when it’s “light as air” when in fact I’m piling up on all the calories!

Third, the mangoes are super sweet!!! I don’t know how they do it. There must be a secret to finding sweet mangoes… How can they buy enough sweet mangoes to feed us all?

Overall – this was a good buy. We’ll try their strawberry shortcake next time!
