Wah Liao Kwe Wanton Mee and Hainanese Chicken Platter Honest Review

I live near Banawe and was really saddened to hear of all the restaurants closing down ever since COVID happened. So when I heard a new restaurant had opened up, and that they were serving wanton mee and hainanese chicken platter, I was super excited to check it out!

Well – the big question is – is Wah Liao Kwe worth the hype?

I tried both the Hainanese Chicken Platter (PHP 680 for 3-4) and the Wanton Mee (PHP 950 for 4-5).

Of the two, I personally liked the wanton mee better. And this is because I really liked the mee. The noodles were springy and very flavorful – touch of sweetness and spiciness. You can eat these noodles all on its own! Unfortunately, the mee sauce is spread unevenly so do make sure to mix it well beforehand.

Atop the wanton mee are three toppings: wanton, asado and vegetables. The vegetables are good – nice and crunchy. The asado was tender and flavorful (but not overly memorable). The wanton was meh. It’s alright, but no one was fighting over it.

On the other hand, I thought the Hainanese Chicken Platter was a letdown. The chicken itself was rather bland. I had to smother it in the ginger sauce to add flavor. This is a far cry from my current favorite Hainanese Chicken from Chewsarap. Still room for improvement here.

Still, given they’re fairly new – I’m excited to see what new dishes they come out with and what improvements they’ll continue to make in their existing dishes!
