Pancake House Ready-to-Cook Frozen Tapa Honest Review
December 16, 2020
I had a ton of Pancake House GCs accumulated from all the BDO credit card promos. As they were expiring soon, I trudged over to Pancake House to claim food… Only to realize I had waaay more GCs than expected. Thankfully, they had ready-to-cook meals to choose from as well. I ended up purchasing their Frozen Tapa. I’ve never actually had the beef tapa at Pancake House before. Normally, I order their spaghetti, chicken and tacos – all of which I love. But well, I figured, how can you go wrong with tapa?
Well, we’ll find out, shall we?
Verdict: Pancake House Tapa is an easy addition to breakfast staples
What I ordered
- Ready-to-Cook Beef Tapa
- Price: PHP 795
- Content: 10 servings of Pancake House tapa, approximately 120-125g per pack (total: ~1.2-1.25 kg)
How to cook
While 1 serving is technically for one person, I think ~1.5-2 servings could be more satisfying as a meal. In my case, I cooked 5 servings for 5 people and we still ended up a bit hungry. To compensate, I added fried egg and atchara on the side as well.
Cooking the tapa is relatively simple…
- Step 1: Defrost the tapa. I recently found out that our microwave has a defrost function! Thank goodness, because I forgot to take out the tapa from the freezer beforehand….
- Step 2: Pre-heat oil in frying pan for 30 seconds
- Step 3: Place thawed Beef Tapa in the pan and stir fry for ~5 minutes, or until the sauce has seeped into the tapa
- Step 4 (Optional): Cook a fried egg on the side, as a yummy complement to the tapa. I also added atchara!
Verdict
The beef tapa itself was flavorful, and the meat was tender PROVIDED you don’t overcook it. My first try – I overcooked it and it was really tough to chew. Yuck! The second try went much better.
