UK cross-country tour (9-day itinerary) – Brighton and Seven Sisters

I wanted to do a London day trip to somewhere closer to nature (one day in London, and already I missed greenery haha!). I had two options –

  • Seven Sisters Cliffs: Cliffs of Dover, move over. The Seven Sisters has not one, but SEVEN, beautiful white cliffs to rival yours!
  • Mayfield Lavender Farm: The lavenders look absolutely stunning and would be beautiful on Instagram. Even better, I was there right in the middle of its blooming season

As the title of this blog suggests, I ended up going to Seven Sisters (I suspect also because my traveling companions were boys, and they certainly didn’t care about the stunning lavender flowers and what a stunning backdrop they’d make in my Instagram photos…)

Anyway! Off to Seven Sisters we went – but wait! To get to Seven Sisters via public transport, you had to pass through Brighton, which is how I ended up with a day trip to both Brighton and Seven Sisters. Yay, hitting two birds with one stone

9:00AM

Board the train at London Blackfriars to Brighton (arriving at 10:12AM). From the Brighton train station, head to the bus stop for the Coaster 12s. It’s difficult to explain how to get to the bus station – but just type in “Seven Sisters Country Park” into your Google Maps, and it should tell you where the station can be found

Tips:

  • If you download the B&H app, you can purchase a networkSAVER ticket which will allow you to travel unlimited for a day for £4.50 on all Brighton & Hove buses! Otherwise, you can still purchase the ticket on the coaster itself – it’ll just be a bit more expensive. Remember, purchasing round trip tickets and in pairs will also net you a discount (£10 round-trip tickets for 2 people)
  • If possible, get Coaster 12X – this is the express bus, which will allow you to reach Seven Sisters much faster

10:30AM

Get down at the Cuckmere Inn stop. From the Cuckmere Inn, ask one of the service staff to paint you to the Seven Sisters Cliff trail. From there, it’s a nice and easy ~30mins walk to get to the cliff. And tada – you’ll be rewarded by this!

Tip: Wear shorts and slip-off shoes if possible. That way, you can wade into the water if you want to!

11:30AM

You can opt to walk up the cliff (not the Seven Sisters cliff itself), but the opposite end. From the top, you’ll be able to see a different view of the Seven Sisters. Plus, there are several benches scattered around here, which might make a nice spot for a picnic (except the wind is SUPER strong, and there are loads of seagulls)

12:30PM

Time to head back! You can opt to have lunch at the Cuckmere Inn (note: the service is pretty bad, and the food is just decent… Do NOT order their wine). If you decide you’d rather eat elsewhere, the next pub is at the Seven Sisters Park Centre, so you may want to head over there to try that instead (it’s just a short ~10 mins walk)

2:00PM

It’s time to head back to Brighton – don’t worry, there’s also a bus stop at the Seven Sisters Park Centre. Aboard the bus, just flash your round-trip ticket at the conductor and you’re good to go. Super important – do NOT misplace your earlier ticket, otherwise you’ll have to pay £4.20 per person for a one-way trip back to Brighton. Pretty steep right?

3:30PM

Back at Brighton, there are a couple of things you can do:

  • Shop – there are loads of stores at Brighton! And while we were there, loads of sales were ongoing, which meant you could buy clothes AND jackets for a super affordable price
  • Check out the Royal Pavilion and have tea there
  • Walk along the Brighton Pier

7:30PM

And that’s a wrap, time to head back to London!
