Smoked Duck Breast Honest Review

I’ve been craving duck, but really didn’t know HOW to cook duck. It’s definitely more expensive than normal meats so I didn’t want to botch it up. Well, I saw this cheap duck promo, and I know it isn’t the legit duck – but I figured it would be good practice for cooking!

What I bought:

  • 12 packs + 1 free pack Smoked Duck Breast (Feb 2021 expiry) for PHP 1200
  • Each pack is roughly 100g

VERDICT: Worth it for the price

Cooking Instructions

  • First, score the duck on both sides to help render the fat from the skin better when you cook it. Best to score the duck when it’s cold and firm, but make sure you don’t score it too deeply
Score the duck
  • Pan-fry each side for ~3 to 5 minutes. No need to add oil. I pan-fry the side with all the fat first so that the fat becomes oil

  • That’s it! Slice up the duck and serve

Taste

The duck meat kind of tastes like ham, but its more flavorful and complex in its taste. I liked the thin slice of fat (which when not done well can be rather icky), and the meat itself is incredibly tender! I’m pretty happy with it and am gifting a couple to my grandparents since it’s relatively healthy and is tender enough for them to chew through

Paired the duck with Truffle Mushroom Risotto Rice
