Mila’s Potato Cake – a Bacolod delicacy Honest Review

Bacolod has many many excellent bakeries and cakeshops. A recent find (for me) is Mila’s Restaurant. A friend sent over their Potato Cake for us to try, and I was left gobsmacked. Honestly, when he first told me he was sending over Potato Cake, I wasn’t sure what he meant… like potato salad?

But no, it’s a legitimate cake with potato flour/starch in it.

So what is it? We’re talking about two layers of potato cake topped with a thin buttercream frosting (this is REALLY excellent, I would eat it for the frosting alone) and slightly caramelized sugar as a topper. I would skip the caramelized sugar because it makes this cake dangerously sweet… but it does provide a crunchy texture given the sugar crystal texture. Supposedly, if you eat it without the frosting, the potato cake will taste slightly like potatoes. As I ate it primarily for the frosting, I can neither prove nor disprove this.

Overall though, this was muy delicioso.
