Blanched Lettuce with Oyster Sauce and Garlic DIY Recipe (w/ Step-by-Step Instructions)
January 23, 2022
Wow – I just stumbled onto this recipe as I was looking through Woks of Life and boy am I glad I did because it was such a hit! My mom actually asked me for the recipe (a rarity as she usually just gives her verdict and it ends there).
So without further ado, let’s jump in:
DELECTABLE DISH FOR THE DAY: BLANCHED LETTUCE WITH OYSTER SAUCE AND GARLIC
DIFFICULTY: Easy
SERVING SIZE: Good for 5 people
COOK TIME: 15 minutes
INGREDIENTS FOR BLANCHED LETTUCE WITH OYSTER SAUCE AND GARLIC
- 10 ounces lettuce
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Lee Kum Kee soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 tbsp water
STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO MAKE BLANCHED LETTUCE WITH OYSTER SAUCE AND GARLIC
- Gently peel the lettuce into individual leaves. Take out the leaves that are wilted or with black spots. Wash the leaves clean, paying special attention to the base of the stems, as this part holds the most dirt. After washing, drain and leave the leaves whole.
- Bring a large pot of water to boil (which is sufficient to cover the lettuce leaves you have ready)
- In a small saucepan, put in oil, add the 5 cloves minced garlic, 1 tbsp Lee Kum Kee soy sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, and 3 tbsp of water. Bring the mixture to a simmer (quick boil), then turn off the heat.
- Back to your boiling pot of water, once it’s boiling, add 1 tbsp of oil (it’s supposed to make the lettuce look shiny). Cook for ~20 seconds to lightly wilt the lettuce, then immediately drain from the pot. Wash with cold water, even better if you submerge under ice cold water
- After draining, lay the lettuce on a serving plate and pour the sauce on top.
