Where to Eat in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh
April 19, 2023
To be honest, we didn’t do any sightseeing in Da Nang, aside from a daytrip to Ba Na Hills, and same goes for Ho Chi Minh. Instead, we mostly spent our time here eating with friends (my boyfriend has friends here!) and buying souvenirs! So below, I’ll just lay out all my favorite places to eat at Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh
Da Nang
Bep Hen
Vietnamese home cooked food ❤️ Brought here by locals and 100% loved it! After days of eating Central Vietnam specialties, it was also nice to eat “normal” food Viets eat at home, that’s actually quite reminiscent of what we also eat at home
Personal faves were the Braised pork dishes 🤤
Jollibee
Get in my tummy!! After 6 days of nonstop Viet food, hello Jollibee. You are like water in a parched dessert. ❤️
Grabe ang sarap? Prices super reasonable, chicken EVEN BETTER vs the chicken in the Philippines. These Vietnamese are expert fryers truly. Super crispy skin!! Love the chili chicken too. Delicious!
The spaghetti tastes exactly like our jolly spaghetti
The seaweed potato snack tasted like hash brown with nori toppings. Delicious.
The chicken sandwich tasted like something out of a sandwich shop – super fluffy bread, delish chicken, and lotsa veggies (more than the chicken hmph)
Drinks-wise, the peach mango and peach tea were interesting to be sure, although nothing to write home about.
Tropical sundae with its Boba and coconut chips was interesting. I really like their Boba hehe
Biển mặn
65 Trần Hưng đạo
So fortunate to have been brought around by locals, as otherwise we wouldn’t have managed to order anything lol since everything was in Vietnamese.
Looove the food here. Super fresh and excellent cooking (esp the sauces). I really liked the clams (with the lemongrass soup), the sea snails (my first time to try – great sauce! Especially when paired with Bahn mi), the oyster (really interesting peanut topping which cut through the fishiness), the sea mantis shrimp (super soft and sweet meat), and the oc Giac (what a revelation. A must try 🤣)
Overall would reco to everyone! But maybe better to come with a local hehe
The Coffee House
Nice ambiance, and free Wifi. Coffee, milk tea and juices also good. We tried a good selection, plus their cakes. Nothing too amazing, but very serviceable. And more importantly, air conditioned
Two places I also really wanted to try but didn’t manage to because of lack of time were the following. Photos shared below lifted from the internet!
Coco chè
82 Hồ Xuân Hương
Mỳ quảng Hương Quê
78 phan thanh
Ho Chi Minh
Pho Hoa Pasteur
Delicious! Brought here by a local, said to be the best Pho in the city. Yummy!! So clean tasting, very Hanoi-like in flavor ❤️
We got the raw beef, the beef brisket, the fried dough sticks (bichukoy) and lean pork paste. All delicious.
Banh Can Cua Ut Thao
OMG. So delicious!!!! Pork hock / freshwater shrimp tapioca noodle soup with crab meat, quail egg, crab cakes, mushroom, and pig blood curd. Everything just came together beautifully. The soup was thick and shrimpy, the seafood were all so fresh, and the tapioca noodles were just the right texture to match the soup and toppings. Gosh, sarap??
And the coconut. SO SWEET!!! Comes from Vietnam’s coconut province apparently. We also had their peach milk which was very sweet, yet delicious 😍
