Coi Batangas Private Overnight Ryokan Experience Honest Review

Our friends gifted us a private overnight ryokan experience at Coi. Never heard of them? Me also! Until we were gifted this goft certificate

But I went onto the website and really liked what I saw. This place looks FINE!

And so when we were trying to think through what to do for my birthday weekend, I immediately thought of Coi! Not only would it be a nice private non-working getaway (a first for us since we got married, although we both still worked a bit lelz), but it would be FREE (always a nice thing haha)

Anyway, first off – to get there takes a bit of time. Total travel time for us (we were coming from BGC) was 2.5 hours. Holy cow, it is far! We passed by Tagaytay and even passed by our wedding venue (woo brings back the memories!)

Check in time was at 2pm, but we decided to eat lunch before heading there. Popped by The Fatted Calf, which is super nice actually (albeit hot and malamok and rather pricey) but the food itself was excellent. I will definitely come back!

Then we were off on the final stretch to Coi. Once we hit Batangas and entered the “talahib” area – it really felt like nature all around! The lane became big enough for one car, we were surrounded by greenery and off in the distance, we could see the majestic Mt Batulao! Ahhh roadtrip feels!

Finally at 3pm, we arrived at Coi. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Angel who proceeded to show us around. The entrance walkway was very dramatic looking, but also quite devoid of coi (rather ironic).

Then we were ushered into the dining area which looks super cozy.

Here we were served matcha (homemade aka not sweet and quite bitter) and this yummy pastry.

Afterwards, we made our way to our room, which was just right across! Very nice. I like the nice touches to the bedroom (including the Eimes chairs – or lookalikes), the dyson in the bathroom and the nice zen garden that you can see as you bathe!

Also, since we are natural busybodies, we also checked out the Master Suite in the same Ying Villa and it’s nice! They have a separate living room altogether, which provides that nice separation. I think super sulit if you’re 4pax, because the sofa can be converted into a queen sized bed.

The TV also had Netflix on it wooo! Alas, there was no time to lounge around because 4PM was our scheduled time to exclusively use the infinity pool. Alas, it was HOT. I tried but the sun was just scorching and there was zero shade. So, we swam and took photos a bit then ran off to shower and lounge around in our airconditioned room

In retrospect, the Master Suite at Ying Villa (or Yang Villa, which is even better) is much better value-wise. Their check in time is at 3pm, private use of the pool from 5-6pm (when the sun is setting) and check out at 12NN. Overall more reasonable hours.

At 5:30pm, we were promptly escorted to our Zen Bodywork massage. But first, a quick snap with the sunset.

The massage itself lasted for 60minutes and it was excellent! I lovee massages and this was pretty good. I felt very limber (and oily) after!

After the massage, we made our way to the dining area for our Japanese inspired teishoku dinner. The setup was very pretty!

But the food was just ayt. You have the option to choose between rice or soba (get the rice, walang lasa iyong soba). Then beef or salmon – I’d say the beef was better!

Since it was my birthday, I asked if I could bring in cake and wine and they agreed to waive the corkage for 1 bottle of wine. Yay!

After dinner, we went back to the room and enjoyed our private time together! In retrospect, wow this was a very scheduled day! Haha we enjoyed though. We ended the night by watching Ripley on Netflix. Excellent series – I do recommend it

The next morning, I woke up at 8AM to sneak a swim in the pool. Very nice at this time because there was no sun since it was west facing. So I leisurely swam a bit and even had time to do my devotion and pray

After a quick shower, time for a teishoku breakfast! I enjoyed my mackarel, and the meat on stick (darn what is this called haha). I thought the breakfast was MUCH better than dinner, and I felt pleasantly stuffed afterwards

Afterwards, time to pack and we were checked out by 11am! And that’s it! A nice weekend away from home.
