UK cross-country tour (9-day itinerary) – Shoreditch Street Art

So, for my last day in London – I initially wanted to do a whole day food trip – starting with the London Food Tour then ending with a nice stroll around the Shoreditch area (where I would continue my food travails on my own!

Alas, I forgot to book the Food Tour, and when I finally remembered to do so the night before… the tour was already sold out! #Sadness Thankfully, the Shoreditch Strthen read on for eet Art and Graffiti tour caught my eye, and I decided to check that out instead. Boy, I’m super glad I did!! I learned so much over the course of 2 hours, and I felt like I was immeasurably enriched afterwards. See below my fave street art artists from the tour – and don’t forget to check out their respective Instagrams… they do amazing work!

Akajimmyc

This artist is inspired by finger painting – where individual dots make a full image (but in his case, he uses drips). I LOVE how real his paintings look. Imagine the amount of effort and artistry required for this

Mr Cenz

Mr Cenz paints realistic looking people then layers it over with stencils to create the otherworldly, futuristic effect. Isn’t the effect… just beautiful?

Dreph

Dreph only does black women with the goal to empower them. Here’s a painting of the mother of his child, notice how strength seems to emanate from her?

Otto Scheid

A Chilean artists, Otto Scheid’s paintings are always within a circle with black stencil images. Not just that, his paintings usually have a commentary on pressing issues of the day. I particularly like this one – the way I interpret it is… if Jack the Ripper came back today, people would rather snap photos for their IG and FB, rather than call the police…

Shock-1

I know it does not look like much (especially to my untrained eye), but this is apparently one of the most technically difficult works out there. Imagine having to paint in such a way that layers upon layers can be seen but are still transluscent against the other layers? Not only that, but these are apparently almost as accurate as an actual x-ray!

Banksy

Need I say more? This is not his usual style though 🤷

Fanakapan

This dude only does 3D style street art. Notice how the architecture is reflected on the helmet? Very very cool!

roa

roa only does b & w paintings of animals native to the area. In the case of London that would be … rats!

Hope you enjoyed the art as much as I did!! Props to Olivia – our super charming and knowledgeable guide 😍
