Ang Kusinero PH Full Porchetta, Char Siu Pork, Soy Chicken Honest Review

I follow Fooddudeph , and regularly drool over his yummy food posts and stories. One such story that caught my eye was his incredibly descriptive endorsement of Ang Kusinero PH’s toro char siu and soy chicken.

Well, when I saw that Ang Kusinero PH had a pre-prepared platter for the Lunar New Year celebrations, I jumped on the chance to try out their dishes. In particular, I chose to get the Longevity Platter – priced at PHP 3,888 and inclusive of:

  • 1 Full Porchetta
  • Soy Chicken Legs (chopped)
  • Toro Char Siu (500g)

In retrospect, I should’ve realized I had overordered. Apparently, one whole porchetta is meant to feed 12pax… But greedy me was too excited to eat yummy restaurant-level food hehehe!

Anyway! Suffice to say, we had A LOT of leftovers. But who cares about that? Let’s discuss these delicious food items!

Prized Crunchylicious Porchetta

This is the dish that put Ang Kusinero PH on the map. It’s heralded to be the BEST porchetta in Manila. Boneless lechon belly has never tasted this decadent, this juicy and tender, this expertly seasoned, and this CRUNCHY. Wow. Just wow.

I always get SUPER annoyed whenever I order food and have it delivered at home, because my family takes FOREVER to get ready. From the time I call out “It’s time for dinner” to the time people actually show up at the dinner table can range from 30 to 60 minutes. So crazy! I was pretty worried that by the time people actually showed up, the porchetta skin would no longer be crispy. But crazy, it defied all expectations! So so good.

On top of that, the meat itself was incredibly tender and amazingly seasoned. Brings me happy memories. The first slice was the best. But by the time I started tucking into the second slice, I started to feel all the oil and fat converge in my throat. Blech. Do not overeat.

Aside from that, I also loved how they gave an assortment of sauces and even green papaya along with the porchetta. While you don’t need the sauces to enjoy the porchetta, it can further elevate the meal for you!

Soy Chicken Legs

Soy Chicken is a quintessential hawker food. You can find this in hawker stalls across Hong Kong and Singapore. It’s not premium food, but when done right, it’s damn good. And it’s important to do it right, because the food itself is relatively simple – white cut chicken cooked in soy sauce – can’t get any simpler than that. Well, Ang Kusinero’s soy chicken is a great example of how quality food and excellent cooking can really make a world of difference. Their Soy Chicken is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Pork Char Siu

Ang Kusinero prides itself on the quality of their char siu because all this is done in-house. They choose the pork belly, they prepare the seasoning, and they’re proud of the fact that they don’t use MSG or extenders. So, this is meant to be healthy.

Hmmm, this was a bit of a miss for me though. The char siu was not as tender as I had hoped it would be, and there was A LOT of fat. It felt like half the char siu was made of fat, as opposed to just the thin strip that I’m used to when eating at Chinese restaurants.
