Tokyo 7-day DIY itinerary: Free Imperial Palace Walking Tour and Odaiba

For our final day in Tokyo, we wanted to take it easy – so we decided to stay within the city. There were two parts to this. We spent the entire morning touring the Imperial Palace, followed by an afternoon at Odaiba. This blog post will detail out this itinerary!

Day 7

FREE IMPERIAL PALACE WALKING TOUR

ODAIBA

Free Imperial Palace Walking Tour (Estimated time: 2.5 hours)

  • Meeting spot: Tokyo Station, Marunouchi Central Exit (meeting place will be on the immediate right once you exit the ticket gate)
  • Meeting time: Every Saturday, 1pm (make sure to arrive ~10 minutes before to sign up). You’ll be assigned to a smaller group (comprised of ~8 people, with 2 guides per group)

If you’re interested in learning more about the city and its history, then this tour is for you! The tour is run by Japanese volunteers– their English isn’t perfect, but they more than make up for it with their enthusiasm and eagerness to share more of their city with you

WHAT HIDDEN SECRETS LURK BEHIND THOSE WALLS?
If you’re lucky – and you come during the right seasons (April to June), you will also be rewarded by a stunning display of the beautiful flora and fauna found within these gardens. Because I came early June, I was greeted by blooming iris and azalea flowers

At the end of the tour, these awesome volunteers also offered to lend us their one-touch kimonos for photos! Twas definitely an experience to remember!

MY TOUR GROUP FOR THE DAY – FELLOW FILIPINOS!

Monorail

After you’ve enjoyed wandering around the Imperial Palace, you should grab a metro, then take the monorail to get to Odaiba. The monorail’s a bit pricey, but totally worth it especially if you’re at the front – you get AMAZING views!. Depending on where you want to go, choose the corresponding monorail station. Personally, I’d suggest you go down at the nearest station to the Rainbow Bridge

Statue of Liberty and Rainbow Bridge

Once you alight from the monorail station, make your way slowly to the Statue of Liberty and the Rainbow Bridge. You can go crazy taking photos here

Shop at Aqua City

You think there would be no shopping involved in Odaiba? I lied hehe. Spend some time at Aqua City shopping – this is where I bought my Ufufy (Disney store), my dad bought a pair of ties (Suit Select), and my sister and I bought Anello bags

Gundam Statue at Diver City

From here, make your way to Diver City for the Gundam Statue. Personally, I like it the most at night when it’s all lit up

Dinner at Kaneko Hannosuke

  • Specialty: Tempura with poached egg
  • Price: JPY 900 + tax

The tempura here is SUPER yummy, but quite pricey given the size of its portions. Note that the Odaiba branch is found at the Diver City food court, but the original branch is the one at Nihombashi

And that’s it! Stay tuned for the rest of my Tokyo adventures!
