Pete’s Roast – Roast Duck and Roast Pork Belly Honest Review

I kept seeing Pete’s Roast everywhere I looked – Facebook, Instagram (ok that’s everywhere for me LOL), so I’ve been meaning to order for a looong time, except it’s actually pretty far from me. Anyway, last Sunday, I decided to just order and pay for the shipping. Pete’s Roast has 3 options to choose from – Roast Duck, Roast Chicken and Roast Pork Belly. Honestly, I would’ve preferred to get the Roast Chicken and Roast Pork Belly, but my family’s been complaining that I’ve been ordering too much chicken lately (for good reason!!!! those chicken were damn good – check out my reviews on Samsam Chickin, Chickenstop, and Aguirre Fried Chicken), and so I decided to skip the chicken and go with the duck instead.

I’m not sure that was a particularly wise decision… But first, let me discuss the experience.

Ordering experience

Overall, this was pretty smooth. I ordered via Facebook – the owner was very nice and accommodating (he’s Gracean too!). There was a minor snafu because he thought I had ordered for Saturday, and so he had prepared the order on Saturday. Thankfully, the misunderstanding was cleared up quickly and we were back on track for a Sunday delivery.

On Sunday, the order was ready for pick up at the time we had agreed on, and it arrived at my house at 11:30AM on the dot.

Taste

As to the roasted meats itself, Pete’s Roast boasts that their meats are infused with so much flavor, that you don’t need sauces to accompany it. This was likely why the sauces provided (peanut sauce, and hoisin) was so little.

Well…. I suppose that’s true to an extent. The pork belly was marinated in Pete’s Roast secret sauce. I found it a tad salty, and so dipped it quite liberally into the peanut sauce, then the Mang Tomas (when we ran out of the peanut sauce). I REALLY liked the crackling skin of the pork belly though. SOOOO good. I also liked that there was a good ratio of meat and fats. I would have preferred all meat, but it’s pork belly – what do you expect? Overall, I would definitely reorder the Roast Pork Belly again – hoping for more peanut sauce to accompany it next time.

The Roast Duck was a dud for us though. I always think this whenever I’m eating duck – “Ugh, it’s not tender, and I find it quite dry.” Yet I always seem to forget this, and I end up ordering duck… AGAIN. Well, Pete’s Roast’s Roast Duck was OK tender, and is said to have been marinated in Chinese aromats hence the infused flavor. However, and this is a big no-no for me, I found it quite dry. So overall verdict, I probably wouldn’t order this one again. I knew it! I should’ve ordered the Roast Chicken! Oh well.

Having said that, the serving is quite generous, so I was pretty happy with that!
